Why? Because this is a climate model that simulates an event in which the temperature of a place changes and changes the climate in that place. The global warming effect of this is that you can't simply adjust the climate system to make sure it stays the same. As I outlined in my post on the topic, there is no way to make sure there is no change in the climate system in the future. And if there is a change, we should assume that if you adjust the system to keep the same temperature (and no change in the climate system), you will have to adjust the system to keep it the same. I don’t believe we would want to adjust our climate system to keep the same temperature if it were the same as it is now, because it can't be because of any new effects.

The key to thinking sensically about this “solar geoengineering” is to avoid the extremes and consider the most plausible use scenarios. That means we can ignore things like using solar geoengineering to cancel out all warming while still emitting as much CO2 as we please—it simply isn't plausible.

So to sum up what I said above, if we can't get the CO2 reductions we want to keep, then we can't really make good use of them. The only way we are going to avoid this is to put a lot of effort into mitigating it as well as making use of it. I don't think that this is going to be easy.
