The U.K.'s transport authorities have estimated that it takes about three years to remove the smog from Britain's south coast by taking down some of the smog.
The U.K.'s Environment Agency says the process could be done for up to six months, but aviation experts say the process will take up to five years.
While it's not entirely clear exactly how long the process will take, experts say it would have an impact on the UK's economy.
"The whole aviation industry will see an increase in emissions, and it will drive the country to take action," said Thomas Dees, head of the U.K.'s Environment Agency.
The U.K.'s transport authority said that it is reviewing the matter closely and that it will consider its options.
