[Update, March 12, 9:57am] The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed that there is an immediate need for the modification, but said that the FAA will "continue to address all aspects of the modification to the 777."

The aircraft is currently scheduled to go on sale in the first half of this year for $1.4 billion.

According to the FAA, "Airlines cannot take any action until the changes are in place and approved by all the major industry stakeholders. The FAA has been working to address this issue for a year and a half and will continue to provide additional information for manufacturers and the public as soon as we know more."The next time you're at work, don't be surprised when your coworkers start talking about the new iPad.
