"The vast majority of people who are not using Alexa today are trying to do it once or twice," the source said. The report said that the number of people who use Amazon's Echo line has jumped from about 4 percent in 2012 to almost 6 percent by the end of 2015.

That figure could be even higher, because the company has been trying to build up customers' trust in the technology — and in some cases even to market it as a personal appliance.

Amazon has been experimenting with the technology for a few years. It's used in an Amazon Web Services (AWS) service to manage Amazon Echo devices that are connected to its Echo platform, but also in a few of its e-commerce services. The company is making an announcement Thursday about its upcoming purchase of Echo devices from Amazon Echo Direct in San Diego, but it's unclear if that will be the company's first foray with the technology.The U.S. Army is in the midst of a new military policy which is to make sure that "all personnel are given the same level of protection and respect and no physical or mental disability is considered a disability," according to a letter released by the Army late Friday.

The Army plans to add $250 million to the budget for new special warfare troops by 2016.

In a statement, the Army said the policy would make it easier for soldiers in special operations to complete training and training and to return home to their families before leaving the field.

The Army said the "Army is committed to providing the highest level of safety, security and efficiency to our nation's troops and to the Army as the nation's combat force."
