"Remind is a popular free texting service that I have seen. It is available by calling Verizon Customer Service (800) 877-4200, or by calling the Customer Service Center," wrote Robert Voorhees, Verizon's vice president of Consumer Affairs and Corporate Communications.

Voorhees added that Verizon plans to sell its free service in the coming months and he expected the situation to change.

"We are committed to the free texting service and we will continue to work with our partners on this issue to bring this issue to the forefront," Verizon said in a statement.

Remind is similar to Facebook Messenger, which features an API that allows its users to receive messages from their friends via text message. Remind's goal is to help kids learn the importance of texting to keep their eyes open, according to a recent Google data study.

"Remind is an app that offers a free texting experience when you do not have a text or phone number, but you can also use that phone number to send messages to friends and share messages with friends or family members," according to the report.

Voorhees said Verizon is not trying to stop the free texting service from going on sale.

"We think it's the right decision," he said. "We are talking about the whole issue of free texting, and we will continue to work on resolving the issues."Still loading...
