What's more, HBO has never received a call from a cable or network that has been accused of misappropriating its trademark or trademark. The company has not filed any trademark or trademark infringement complaint for such a situation. And in the last year, HBO has not been sued since its use of the phrase, which is an obvious misstep.

On Wednesday, CNN's Wolf Blitzer asked HBO about the "Game of Thrones" meme, asking, "What's wrong with this one?"

The company responded, "We have a lot of trademarks," the company said. "And we don't think we should get into this kind of discussion." But they added, "[T]he Copyright Office has a process in place that can be helpful in this. We would like to get to the bottom of this because our business is based in the United States. And we certainly have trademarks. So this was not a trademark violation."

The company had previously said the word "Game of Thrones" was a reference to the show's fictional characters, "Darth Nihilus and Nynaeve," and, "We want to be clear: The show is about Nynaeve's life.

"We've always had a very strong relationship with Game of Thrones," HBO spokesman Josh Greenblatt said of the company's use of the word. "We take the whole family of games seriously we believe in our fans and we want to be a part of the family of games.
