Farrell and Brulle argue that the media's lack of coverage
Farrell and Brulle argue that the media's lack of coverage of the issue of climate change can help the anti-science movement win this battle.
"The press has not been covering climate change more than it has in the past," they write. "In fact, as of last year, only 11 percent of the conservative media had covered climate change. But that percentage has increased since then, to 70 percent of the news media."
“While the media is still relatively small, it is beginning to become more mainstream. The Huffington Post, for example, in February published a detailed analysis of the climate changes in the United States, showing that the United States and other developed nations experienced more than 1,200 "climate change" deaths, as reported by the New York Times in August. The New York Times also included an interactive map that showed how much the United States was affected by climate change.
In December, the Center for a New American Security released an interactive map showing how a "climate change" scenario would impact the United States by the end of this century.
But these maps are a snapshot. A lot has changed since then, and it appears a lot of people still don't understand the climate crisis.
The new map by the Center for a New American Security shows how many people don't know about the risks of climate change. This is despite the fact that the United States has had a record-low number of extreme events over the past two decades—which would likely lead to a rise in the number of deaths, according to the new map.
