The Punisher was a one-off feature that aired for nearly three years.  The second season, which was written and written by Nick Denton, came out last October, and it featured a cast of new characters like Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Hawkeye, and The Defenders.  It was followed up by a two-season spinoff, The Punisher: Punisher Season 3: The Defenders (which premiered in 2007). That was the first time that the Punisher had been in two separate seasons, and the original season was a huge hit.  As a result, Daredevil and The Punisher season 3 debuted on Netflix on October 18, 2015. The two-season spinoff ended its run and was never renewed for another season.  It was originally set to air in 2016 for the same reason that Daredevil season 3 was never canceled. The season 3 premiere premiered on December 18, 2016.

The Defenders ran for nearly two decades, with two members of the team at the helm in 2016—Daredevil and Jessica Jones—running alongside former members of Daredevil and The Defenders. Daredevil and The Defenders were both the most successful series for Netflix, and both were critically acclaimed.  The two-season spinoff was canceled at the end of the year and did not air again.  In 2015, The Punisher season 3 saw Jessica Jones and The Punisher team up.  The Defenders first aired after The Punisher's second season, and then, in 2016, they debuted during the Season 3 premiere, and went on to make a full season out of it.  The new Punisher season 2 premieres later this year, and will premiere on Netflix this fall.

In December 2016, The Punisher began shooting its first episode, which was picked up from the very end of 2015.  The series began airing on Netflix in November 2016 and is now on Netflix as a standalone series.  The Punisher season 3 was announced on May 4, 2017.  The new Punisher season 3 will have a cast of two, including Luke Cage; Daredevil, who will serve as a supporting character in season 3; and The Punisher, who will serve as a sidekick in season 3.  It will be
