[Update: As of 11pm CST, Cody Wilson has been booked on the Sex Crimes and Assault of a Child with an Unusual Suspect charge. He is being held on $25,000 bail on the condition he not reveal his true whereabouts, his attorney said.]
As for Cody Wilson, he has not yet been charged with any crime.
But, because of the "suspicious circumstance," the Austin Police Department has turned to a "special event" to keep Cody safe.
"Our goal is to help the young woman who is suspected of sexually assaulting her with help from the Austin Police Department and the Austin Police Department's Special Operations Division," said Lt. Travis Johnson, the special events officer. "The Austin Police Department has a dedicated Special Operation Team that will help with the investigation of any potential cases."
"Cody has been a frequent visitor of our community for more than 25 years," said Lt. Travis Johnson. "Cody will be back in court in Austin at the earliest opportunity. We will continue to look into any possible criminal cases which might have been related to Cody."
The case is being investigated by the Austin Police Department to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to convict Cody, but he has no known criminal records or criminal history in the United States.
"We will continue to work with the Attorney General's Office to determine what actions would be appropriate to protect Cody's family and his individual rights," Johnson added.
In the meantime, Wilson will continue to travel to Taiwan for his legal defense on the charges against him.
"He is a man who cares deeply about the law and his rights are absolutely fundamental to his freedom of speech," his attorney said.
